The story
Barents, at Smilšu iela 3 in Riga, is a modern cuisine restaurant with French and Scandinavian seafood at its core, and it earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026.
Head chef Artūrs Trinkuns builds an eight-course tasting menu around produce from the Northern seas and the Baltic region. A three-course version suits shorter evenings. Fishermen, hunters and farmers whom the team knows by name supply the kitchen, which relies on smoking, fermentation and marination.
Wine Spectator gave the wine list its Best of Award of Excellence in 2025. Sommelier Nikita Zaichenkov favours cooler-climate bottles that suit cold-water seafood. The Seafood Bar serves classics and signature cocktails with a Nordic character, and its syrups and bitters are made alongside the chefs.
