The story
Sojiki Nakahigashi stands at 32-3 Jodoji Ishibashicho in Kyoto's Sakyo-ku. Its Japanese kitchen holds two Michelin stars (2026) for excellent cooking.
The name points to eating plants, and the restaurant describes its cooking in those terms. All life, it says, is raised by sunlight, water and air, so each ingredient is used whole. The kitchen speaks of produce nourished by water dripping from bamboo leaves and by clear stream water. Seasonality comes first.
The menu follows the four seasons and draws on Kyoto tradition with a newer sensibility. Gault&Millau scored the restaurant 17 in 2026. Lunch and dinner are served, and the listed options include counter dining, a private room and vegan dishes. The nearest bus stop, Ginkakuji-michi, is about three minutes away on foot.
