The story
La Locanda is an Italian kitchen on the first floor of The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, at Kamogawa Nijo-Ohashi Hotori in Nakagyo-ku. It received a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2025, and its menus blend Italian technique with Japanese produce.
The kitchen works with Japanese ingredients in Italian dishes. A fresh local fish tartar comes with corn, citrus and green olive, and the homemade spaghetti is served with shellfish and fruit tomato. Charcoal-grilled Tokachi herb beef is on the à la carte and tasting menus, with Wagyu sirloin or tenderloin as an upgrade.
Ebisugawa-tei was once the townhouse of Denzaburo Fujita, founder of the Fujita industrial group. Its wood-panelled rooms, Goten-no-ma and Chidori-no-ma, are used for private dining. Pastry chefs from Pierre Hermé Paris make cakes and macarons in the open kitchen of La Vetrina della Boutique, in view of guests.
