The story
Kiyama serves Japanese cuisine at 136 Kinuyacho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, and it holds one Michelin star (2026). The kitchen works in a Japanese counter format, so guests watch the cooking from their seats.
Seating is at the counter, and the room is air conditioned. The restaurant asks guests to dress smart casual and to skip perfume, so the aroma of the cooking and the dashi stays noticeable at the table. Gault&Millau has rated Kiyama 16 (2026).
Lunch and dinner are both served. Last orders are taken at 13:00 for lunch and 19:30 for dinner. The restaurant keeps irregular closing days, so check the schedule before you go. Some summer dates are run by staff preparing for the next head chef while the owner is away. The restaurant also offers its dishes for enjoying at home through a mail-order service.
