The story
Hirosawa is a contemporary Chinese restaurant at 183 Fudocho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, and Gault&Millau awarded it 15.5 points for 2026. The kitchen serves a monthly course in a renovated townhouse near Karasuma and Shijo, cooking Chinese dishes with Japanese and French technique.
Owner chef Hirosawa Masaya opened the restaurant in 2023 in a 100-year-old machiya. He trained at Akasaka Riyu in Tokyo, ran kitchens in Gion and Kitashinchi, and spent six months cooking in Hong Kong. The menu changes each month and relies on seasonal produce from across Japan, with little added seasoning. The Michelin Guide has also recommended the restaurant for 2026.
The signature char siu is roasted twice in a custom-built oven using Shimanto pork, giving a crisp exterior and a moist center. Ten counter seats face a quiet tsubo garden, where guests watch the kitchen at work. Upstairs, a fully private room seats up to six for anniversaries and family celebrations.
