The story

Gion Sasaki, Kyoto: Three Michelin Star Japanese Restaurant

Gion Sasaki is a Japanese restaurant at 566-27 Komatsucho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, awarded three Michelin stars in the 2026 guide.

Hiroshi Sasaki's table

Chef Hiroshi Sasaki says the words he most wants to hear from a guest are "delicious... no, fun." Many diners travel far and take time off work to come. He wants the staff to enjoy serving as much as guests enjoy eating, so the whole room shares one stretch of time. Gault&Millau scores the kitchen 18 for 2026.

Courses and format

Meals are set courses at lunch and dinner, with counter dining among the seating options. Lunch is ¥22,000 and dinner ¥44,000, tax and service included. The dinner price shifts with what the market supplies. Sasaki also runs three sister restaurants: Gion Rakumi, Sushi Rakumi and Shoku Bar Rakumi.
