The story
Gion Maruyama is a Japanese kitchen at 570-171 Giommachi Minamigawa, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, and holds two Michelin stars for excellent cooking in 2026. Gault&Millau gives it 16 for the same year.
The restaurant offers counter dining alongside its fine dining service, and it also takes private parties and catering orders. Its Japanese cooking follows the seasons. The news page lists a run of limited-time dishes, so the lineup is likely to shift between visits.
In May 2022 the kitchen introduced a charcoal-grilled sweetfish udon, which later appeared on a Fuji TV morning program. Other limited releases included Awaji wild hamo (pike conger) shabu-shabu for four, a matsutake mushroom rice, and a Kyoto vegetable white miso hot pot served with matsuba crab rice. These were dated seasonal offerings, so confirm current availability before you go.
