The story
Andō occupies the first floor of Somptueux Central, 52 Wellington Street, in Central, Hong Kong, where chef-founder Agustin Balbi runs a Japanese kitchen that earned one Michelin star in 2026.
Balbi opened Andō in 2020 with JIA Group, and the Black Pearl Restaurant Guide awarded it one Diamond in 2026. The tasting menu brings together flavours from his Argentine upbringing and from the years he spent cooking in Asia, with Spanish and Japanese elements as its framework. Fish and shellfish lead the menu. The signature caldoso rice, nicknamed "Sin Lola," is a homage to his grandmother.
Carlito Chiu, general manager and group wine director, builds the list around high-altitude wines from the Argentine Andes and European alpine slopes. Cool-climate Japanese bottles and pioneering Chinese mountain estates sit alongside them. Traditional Korean takju adds a slow-fermented, tangy counterpoint. The private room carries a food and beverage minimum that varies by day and service, and the dress code is smart casual.
