The story
Casa Buono holds a Michelin star (2026) for its country cooking at corso Cuneo 28, in the Trucco district of Ventimiglia. The guide describes the cooking as high quality. The restaurant sits in the Roja Valley, between Liguria and the Côte d'Azur.
The restaurant's own account begins with two women. Rita, the grandmother, led the local agricultural consortium in the 1970s and built the winding roads up to the olive groves above Trucco. Ines, a great-aunt and accomplished cook, served traditional recipes at her restaurant Bouganvillea, a few steps down the same road.
Today Antonio and Valentina carry that inheritance forward. The site has a page devoted to Chef Antonio Buono. The olive oil poured at the table comes from the groves Rita's roads reached, so the family history is something guests can taste.
The team describes its work as rediscovering the Roja Valley, connecting ingredients, knowledge and stories from a place where natural and cultural influences meet. This approach suits a country kitchen. The restaurant also holds a One Radish distinction (2026) from the We're Smart Green Guide.
