The story
Al Gatto Nero is a Piedmontese and Italian restaurant at Corso Filippo Turati 14 in Turin, and it received the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2023. The kitchen works from seasonal ingredients and traditional recipes, and the menu leans on the classic Turin repertoire.
The antipasti include a warm sauté of young chicken liver, heart and gizzard with sage and eggplant, plus a tortino of anchovies with San Marzano tomatoes, capers and oregano. The paccheri are finished with a rib ragù cooked for five hours. For a main course, the costata alla fiorentina is the house steak, and the sogliola alla mugnaia is the fish alternative.
The restaurant has been run by the same family for three generations, a history ilGolosario recognized with its Faccino Contento + in 2026. The house keeps a photo archive that reaches back to the 1950s and 1960s, and a 1979 La Stampa article covered its traditional Piedmontese cooking. The wine list is a point of pride, and one Gambero Rosso critic praised its personality and expertise.
