The story
Al Becco della Civetta is an Italian restaurant at vico I Maglietta 7 in Castelmezzano, rooted in the cooking of Basilicata. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, the guide's mark for good quality, good value cooking.
Antonietta Santoro is chef-patron here. She gathers and revives dishes from the Basilicata tradition, and she sees herself as their custodian for future generations. Eataly chose the restaurant to represent Lucanian cuisine at Expo Milano 2015.
The ilGolosario guide points to cavatelloni with ragù, spaghettini with artichokes and pezzente, and roasted sausage. It also names slow-braised Podolico veal with collard green and broccoli tacos and an Aglianico del Vulture wine reduction. Dessert is a ricotta mousse with Tursi orange sauce and dark chocolate leaves. Starters and first courses average €13, mains €18 and desserts €7. Set menus run from €55 (vegetarian) and €60 (La Lucana) to €80 (A Mano Libera).
The 2026 Faccino Radioso from ilGolosario credits the setting as the restaurant's greatest strength. The summer terrace looks out over the Lucan Dolomites. The guide also notes a kitchen built on local ingredients and a good range of vegan and vegetarian choices. Reserved parking is available.
