The story
Gallo Nero is a contemporary Italian restaurant at Via del Porrione 65/67 in Siena, listed as Michelin Recommended for 2026. The menu changes with the seasons, and the kitchen works mainly from a short list of local ingredients.
The kitchen buys from small-scale local producers and makes its fresh egg pasta by hand. Bread and focaccia are baked every day. Recent seasonal dishes include a three-meat raviolo with smoked cream and truffle, and venison served with blackberries and rainbow chard. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are part of the menu. The Schlemmer Atlas awards the restaurant two Kochlöffel for 2026.
The restaurant occupies the ground floor of Casatorre dei Leoni, a building dating to 1270 in the historic centre. Piazza del Campo is only a few metres away. Vintage-style design furniture fills the dining rooms, with chairs, sofas and lamps chosen for a timeless look. The wine cellar sits in an ancient Etruscan cave carved into tuff and holds more than 300 labels.
