The story
Mater Terrae is the contemporary restaurant at largo Febo 2 in Rome, and it holds a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. It sits on the roof of the Bio Hotel Raphaël and serves organic, vegan and biodynamic dishes with a 360-degree view over the city's rooftops.
Pietro Leemann, founder of Joia in Milan, has overseen the kitchen since 2014. The menu follows the season and changes often, built on produce from carefully chosen organic suppliers. Vegetarian and vegan dishes sit at the centre of the offer, and the restaurant has also been recognised by the We're Smart Green Guide with 5 Radishes for 2026.
Architect Richard Meier designed the concept for the restaurant and two floors of the hotel. White light runs through the space, and the finishes include leather, oak, Carrara marble and Travertino Navona. Every paint, fixture and material was selected to meet high bioconstruction standards, so the room feels calm and deliberate.
