The story
Ca' Matilde, at Via della Polita 14 in Reggio nell'Emilia, earned one Michelin Star in 2026 for its contemporary Italian cooking. The restaurant occupies an Emilian farmhouse in the countryside, about 12 km from the city, at Rubbianino di Quattro Castella.
Chef Andrea Incerti Vezzani cooks from the garden and from local memory, and the house describes his menus as paths through season, territory and creativity. Most tasting menus change with the quality of the ingredients, so a dish may be gone the following month. Michelin's note for the star is brief: high quality cooking.
Gli Intramontabili (€110, five courses) revisits Reggio Emilia's classics. It lists Canossello culatello with butter and brioche, herb-filled ravioli with pumpkin tortelli, and a Parmigiano Reggiano rice bomb with ragù and pea mousse. Suckling pig with potato cream, shallots and saba follows, and the closing course is "a memory of my rice cake." Oltremare (€120) turns toward the sea in six courses. Cielo (€140) runs to seven, joining land and sea.
The vegetable garden is where the kitchen starts, and it earned the restaurant 5 Radishes from the We're Smart Green Guide in 2026. Hortus, a six-course vegetarian menu, is built around it. Terramadre, also six courses, concentrates on raw ingredients. Wine pairings are offered with each menu, and guests can stay at the on-site locanda. Children have their own menu of simple seasonal dishes.
