The story
Accursio, at Via Clemente Grimaldi 55 in Modica, is a Sicilian restaurant that Michelin lists as Recommended for 2026. Its osteria, Radici, is where the chef cooks the dishes he grew up eating, with a menu that follows the Sicilian seasons.
Accursio Craparo was born in Sciacca in 1976 and settled in Modica in 2003. He opened Radici in 2019 as a contemporary osteria, a room where the cook comes to the table, explains each plate and talks with guests. The kitchen works with wild herbs gathered in the Modica countryside, vegetables from the chef's own garden and produce from local growers he knows personally.
The ilGolosario guide, which awarded the chef its Corona Radiosa for 2026, names macco di fave with roast octopus and wild fennel among its standout plates. The menu also includes linguine with anchovy, fennel and toasted bread, and fried pasta with tomato, eggplant, basil and ricotta salata. For dessert, the Uovo di Accursio is his personal take on biancomangiare, a classic Sicilian sweet. Average prices are listed at 17 euros for starters and first courses, 20 for mains and 8 for desserts, with a four-course tasting menu at 50 euros.
Radici occupies an old palazzo on the main street of the historic centre, beside the Duomo di San Pietro. The interior recalls a sober Modican home, with furnishings chosen to feel comfortable and practical. Vegetarian dishes receive particular care, and the restaurant offers air-conditioned indoor seating, outdoor seating and a private room.
