The story
Butterfly, at SS 12 del Brennero 192 in Marlia near Lucca, serves contemporary Italian cooking and holds a Michelin star for 2026. The restaurant opened in December 1997 in a restored farmhouse, and it is still run by chef Fabrizio Girasoli and his family.
Fabrizio Girasoli is self-taught and describes his kitchen as cucina della memoria, or cooking of memory. Traditional flavors return in new textures and shapes. His son Andrea cooks alongside him, reworking traditional recipes with local ingredients. Vegetarian and vegan tasting menus are also offered, built from the bases of the main menu.
The main room is a Tuscan-style winter garden that opens onto the park, a good place to eat in warmer months. The farmhouse was renovated to offer quiet and privacy.
