The story
La Locanda di Piero, at via Roma, 34 in Montecchio Precalcino (Dueville, Vicenza), runs a modern Italian kitchen that earned a Michelin Recommended mention in 2026. Renato Rizzardi and Sergio Olivetti opened the place in 1992 as a country farmhouse project, and they still run it.
The house calls its cooking La Nuova Cucina Popolare Italiana, a term adopted in 2025 for a kitchen that already existed. The dishes change with the seasons but keep a recognisable core. Gambero Rosso awarded the restaurant two forks in 2022.
Lunch and dinner follow different formats. A Mezzogiorno is a weekday lunch built around one chosen dish, with water and coffee, for €32 in about an hour. The à la carte and tasting menus, with wine pairings, suit longer evenings.
Guests describe a warm, elegant space spread across several rooms, closer to a private house than a restaurant. Sergio Olivetti works the floor as sommelier, and reviewers single out the wine list and the attentive, unobtrusive service. One diner tried the seven-course Osmosi tasting menu and found the courses well balanced. Parking on site is ample.
