The story
Újváros Bisztró, at Arborétum utca 2 in Szarvas, is a contemporary Hungarian restaurant that received a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good-quality, good-value cooking. The modern building stands on the bank of the Holt-Körös, and the kitchen blends tradition with newer techniques.
Chef Piltz Zoltán oversees the kitchen. Gault&Millau scored the restaurant 14 in 2026, describing a concise, seasonal menu built on local ingredients. On one visit, dry-cured duck breast from Orosháza with a honey-sake and cinnamon sauce stood out, along with a plum dumpling finished with cinnamon grated at the table.
The floors are Ravenna marble mosaic, a nod to the Italian roots of the Bolza family. In summer, the terrace is shaded by sun sails and looks toward the Millennium monument and Bolza castle. The weekday lunch menu changes weekly and offers a starter or soup, three main courses and a dessert.
