The story
Lamareda, at Apáca utca 4 in Győr, is a modern cuisine restaurant that earned 13 points from Gault&Millau for 2026. It occupies a 17th-century listed building known locally as the Kuster House, on one of the city's Baroque streets lined with coloured houses.
Horváth Szilveszter has led the kitchen for more than 35 years, one of the few Hungarian chefs to do so faithfully and consistently. The menu pairs traditional Hungarian dishes with fish and touches of Asian influence. Vegan guests have long been welcome, and the ingredients are chosen with care.
Oven-roasted lamb with balsamic onions and rosemary-honey pineapple arrives tender and juicy. A duck soup with meatballs, rice noodles and fresh Asian vegetables is fragrant and warming.
The Szabó family restored the building in the early 2000s. The house serves two moods: a daily menu for weekday regulars on simply set tables, and a more refined interior room for celebrations. The wine list is strongly anchored in the nearby Pannonhalma wine region and reaches well beyond it. The Michelin Guide lists Lamareda as Recommended for 2026, and its inspectors describe a bright, elegant room behind the bistro area at the front.
