The story
Macok Bistro at Tinódi Sebestyén tér 4 in Eger serves modern cuisine built on Hungarian ingredients, and it earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026. The restaurant sits in the historic centre of the city and belongs to the Imola Udvarház hotel, so the dining room works equally well for a lunch stop or a long dinner.
János Macsinka leads the kitchen and owns the restaurant. The portions follow a bistro tradition, but the composition, flavours and plating read as gourmet cooking. Gault&Millau gives the kitchen 14 points for 2026, pointing to its technical skill and its serious approach to craft.
Porcini mushrooms, trout, game and pork recur across the menu. The panko-breaded cutlets are worth ordering, and so is the túrógombóc, a cottage cheese dumpling that has become a permanent fixture. Diners who want a broader introduction can book the four- or six-course Flavours of Our Region tasting menu, which uses produce from the area, including trout from Szilvásvárad and cheese from the Bükk.
The dining room is decorated with playful artwork, bold colour and a striking multicoloured wine wall. Business travellers often end up at the next table to backpackers or families. The courtyard has a quaint watermill. The wine list leans on Eger producers, with other Hungarian regions and a few international classics alongside. An on-site Wineshop sells special Hungarian bottles at shop prices.
