The story
Stand is a Hungarian fine-dining restaurant at Székely Mihály utca 2 in Budapest, awarded two Michelin stars in 2026 for excellent cooking. It is the first "grand restaurant" from Szabina Szulló and Tamás Széll, who earlier opened the bistro Stand25.
Széll achieved unprecedented results for Hungary at the Bocuse d'Or, in both the European and World Finals. Szulló represented the country in the same competition as team president. Gault&Millau gave Stand 18 points in 2026 and describes the place as calm and assured, built as a homage to Hungarian gastronomy.
Dinner is a choice between a chef's menu and a vegetarian one, each with wine pairings. Gluten-free and lactose-free versions are available, but vegan is not. The chef's menu opens with small bites such as house-smoked trout with caviar and a potato lángos with sour cream and Comté. Later come langoustine grilled over charcoal with beurre blanc, yuzu and ginger, and duck rillette with a smoked duck liver bonbon and toasted brioche. Goulash appears as a Wagyu supplement, and roe deer saddle with fondant potato is among the mains. Somlói is one of the desserts.
The entrance is discreet, a few steps from Andrássy Avenue. Inside, a large open kitchen behind glass recalls a competition stage, and the cooks work with a visible calm. Service is warm, and menus are printed personally for each guest to take home.
