The story

St. Andrea Restaurant Budapest: Modern Cuisine With Gault&Millau 15 (2026)

St. Andrea Restaurant, at Bajcsy-Zsilinszky utca 78 in Budapest, serves modern cuisine on the ground floor of the Eiffel Palace. Gault&Millau scored it 15 in 2026. The short menu leans toward bistro cooking, and the wine list draws on the St. Andrea winery behind the name.

Chef Endre Kollár's kitchen

Chef Endre Kollár runs the kitchen, and the duck liver starter is the dish reviewers return to. It comes in three textures: shaved frozen, a mousse-like foam, and a creamy classic version with chocolate and quince. The venison loin is prepared with care, and the somlói galuska is rebuilt as a layered dessert served in a glass.

The room and the wine list

The dining room is warm and well lit, with well-spaced tables and a subtle nod to the winemaking roots. The wine list goes well beyond the house bottles, with still and sparkling wines from Hungary, France, Austria, Germany and overseas, and a good range by the glass. Lunch is the value option, with a business menu of twelve dishes.

Gault&Millau — 15

The Budapest restaurant of the St. Andrea winery is tucked into the ground floor of the Eiffel Palace, just steps away from Nyugati Square. From the moment you walk in, it is clear that St. Andrea is an experience designed to engage all your senses. Soft music, a subtle indoor fragrance, warm ambient lighting, and well-spaced tables set the tone. The space is tastefully and thoughtfully designed – both cozy and elegant – with a clear nod to its winemaking roots. From arrival to farewell, the service is polished and professional. The staff are friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and they clearly know their stuff – even the waiters are well-versed in the wine list. Speaking of which, it is refreshingly generous: while the excellent St. Andrea wines are obviously featured, the list also includes a great selection of still and sparkling wines from Hungary, France, Austria, Germany, and even overseas. There is a nice range available by the glass too. The menu is surprisingly compact and leans toward a bistro style – four starters, two soups, six mains, and two desserts. The duck liver starter is a top-notch. It comes in three textures: shaved frozen, a mousse-like foam, and a classic creamy version paired beautifully with a touch of chocolate and quince. The venison loin is clearly high-quality and prepared to perfection, just as you would hope. The somlói galuska (Hungarian trifle) dessert takes a creative twist on the original – served as a layered dessert in a glass, using premium ingredients. The value for money here is excellent, especially considering the return of St. Andrea’s legendary business lunch menu – you can choose from a total of 12 different dishes. In the kitchen, chef Endre Kollár leads with a steady, expert hand, while the heart and soul of the place is the warm and welcoming host, Miklós Lizsicsár.
