The story
Wirtsstube im Hotel Burkhard, at Marktplatz 10 in Wernberg-Köblitz, serves a French-leaning country kitchen that earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking in 2026. The family has run the inn for three generations, and the Schlemmer Atlas awards it 2 Kochlöffel for 2026.
Josef Braun and Thomas Leyerer lead the kitchen with their team. The menus range from hearty home cooking to more refined French dishes. The house describes its produce as regional and largely organic, and the lighter plates lean on that.
Recent lunch menus have included a sweet potato and turmeric soup with sesame, and fillet of Victoria perch with wild garlic risotto. Angus beef hip steak and herb gnocchi with sheep's cheese and pesto also appeared on the card. Dessert is a house-made tiramisu with stewed rhubarb. For groups of eight or more, the kitchen can prepare a six-course menu paired with wine, and vegan or vegetarian menus are arranged in advance.
Guests can dine in the wood-paneled room with a tiled stove, in the traditional tavern room, or in the newly renovated dining room. The inn sits in the Oberpfälzer Wald Nature Park, and its 34 hotel rooms make an overnight stay easy.
