The story
Gasthaus Egertal, at Wunsiedler Straße 49 in Weißenstadt, holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, the guide's mark for good quality, good value cooking. The inn serves classic cuisine and country cooking with a French streak, halfway between Hof and Bayreuth.
The Rupprecht family bought the Egertal in 1963. Brothers Peter and Theodor took it over in 1970, and Theodor W. Rupprecht returned in 2010 as head chef. He trained at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich and the Sackmann in Baiersbaiersbronn, and also worked at Tantris.
The kitchen cooks honest regional and seasonal dishes with classic influences, adjusted to the time of year. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the house 3 Kochlöffel in 2026 and singles out truffle ravioli, rack of lamb and refined cheese in the old-walled dining rooms.
Angelina Rupprecht, a trained cook and sommelière, works alongside her husband. Vinum Magazin has recognised the wine selection. On the third Saturday of each month the house also serves a Genießerfrühstück, a breakfast priced at 29 € per person.
