The story
Landhaus Tanner in Waging am See serves country cooking at Aglassing 1, 83329, where the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026 recognises good quality cooking at good value. The kitchen draws on Alpine and Mediterranean influences, and the menu leans on produce from the surrounding area.
Franz Tanner runs the kitchen and knows each of his suppliers personally. Beef comes from the Waginger Metzgerei Heilmaier butcher, fish from a fish farm in Taching, and goat's cheese from Kirchanschöring. Between 30 and 40 per cent of his food is organic.
Much of the wine cellar holds organic bottles from Austria and Italy, alongside wines from the immediate surroundings. The two-course weekday lunch costs € 25.00 per person and runs from 12 noon to 2 pm, though it is not offered on public holidays. The beer is supplied by Hofbräuhaus Traunstein.
The dining room is furnished in the Alpine style. The Stüberl room, with its warm colours and wooden furniture, reflects the local history. In summer, the sun terrace and beer garden look out over the countryside. The Schlemmer Atlas rates the house 2,5 Kochlöffel for 2026, citing its tiled-stove sitting room and children's playground.
