The story
Am Kring - Büschker's Stuben, at Kring 6 in Vreden, Germany, serves Westphalian cooking in a family-run house that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality cooking at good value.
The hotel stands in Ammeloe, in a village laid out in a ring around its church more than 600 years ago. The layout is rare in the Münsterland and is protected as a historic monument. The Winkelhorst family has owned the house since 1985, when it was a small inn, and has since expanded it into a hotel with 17 rooms. The second generation took over the running of the business in 2011.
The Schlemmer Atlas awarded two Kochlöffel in 2026 for home-style cooking. Its listed dishes include wedding soup, beef tenderloin tips, and pan-fried zander with risotto. The menu leans on hearty, familiar plates, which suits a kitchen that aims to offer Westphalian hospitality with excellent food.
Outdoor seating, air conditioning, parking and wheelchair access are all listed among the facilities. Cycle paths run through the border countryside close by, so the house suits a midday stop on a ride. Old farm museums are also within reach of the village.
