The story
Johanniter-Kreuz sits at Johanniterweg 11 in Überlingen, where the kitchen works in a country cooking style and holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The restaurant belongs to the Romantik Hotel at the same address, on the Lake Constance shore.
Andreas Liebich follows the style of the Linzgau cooks, and his stated approach is regional and light. Most ingredients come fresh from the surrounding area, and the kitchen revisits long-forgotten recipes. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the restaurant 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026, noting a menu that moves from grandfather's favourite dishes to modern fine dining.
The printed menus include a Bodensee fish soup, stuffed felchen fillets on spinach with basmati rice, and zander fillet in lobster sauce. Veal fillet with morel cream sauce and duck breast with orange sauce also appear. Game from the region and herbs from the hotel garden feature in the vegetarian and seasonal offerings, including a seasonal Romantik Gourmet Menu.
The Kaminzimmer occupies a former stable, with half-timbered walls and an open fireplace at its centre. The Bauernstüble is a cosy room styled after earlier times, and the light-filled Wintergarten seats celebrations of up to 15. A breakfast and banquet room holds up to 80 guests, and the terrace is open for warm summer evenings.
