The story
Gengs Linde in Stühlingen serves Badische and Mediterranean cooking from St.-Gallus-Straße 37 in Mauchen, and the Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026 places it among the guide's picks. The restaurant sits in the Südschwarzwald, close to the Swiss border, and the kitchen and dining room are both run by the family that owns the house.
Christian Geng trained as a cook at a Schwarzwald inn before moving through postings in Sylt, Marbella, St. Moritz, and Bern. He completed further training at the Hotelfachschule Heidelberg and holds the IHK Küchenmeister qualification. He took over Gengs Linde in 2013. The menu reflects his background in both Swiss hotel kitchens and a Mediterranean beach restaurant.
The house buys from suppliers it knows personally, and the stated aim is the best produce from the surrounding region. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the restaurant 2,5 Kochlöffel for 2026 and singled out smoked salmon, cordon bleu, and beef fillet. Beyond the dinner menu, there is a snack menu, and the team sells its own jams and bread.
The restaurant occupies the main building, where the family business was founded more than 300 years ago. Silvia and Christian Geng now lead it in the fourth generation. The Gasthaus suits family celebrations and company events, and private dining is available. The guest house across the street and the three-star hotel, classified since 2015, are part of the same business.
