The story
Gasthof zur Post is a traditional German inn at Markt 1 in Olsberg, on the roundabout in the town center. Schlemmer Atlas gave it 1,5 Kochlöffel in 2026.
Steaks come off an 800-degree grill, and the menu says it aims for New York steakhouse quality. A rump steak called "Der Argentinier" leads the list. Grilled skewers follow, including a pork fillet version, a spiced chicken breast and one of king prawns. Each plate comes with two sides and a choice of sauce, such as Madagascar pepper cream with whisky or red wine jus.
Beyond the grill, the kitchen turns to regional plates. A menu from April 2018 lists Sauerbraten with apple red cabbage and potato dumplings, venison ragout with homemade spätzle, and fried blood sausage with apples in the "Himmel und Erde" style. Sauerland brook trout in almond butter sits among the fish dishes. Cheese spätzle with fried onions covers the vegetarian side. The menu changes with the season.
Alexander Gerlach and Mandy Gerlach-Beck took over the inn in 2015 and run it with a young team. They call it a modern Wirtshaus with tradition, cooking German dishes with room for newer flavors. Desserts include crème brûlée and the "Olsberger Kaffeekränzchen", a Baileys mousse with wild berries and espresso ice cream. Guests are asked to reserve a table by phone.
