The story
Forst's Landhaus at Mühlstraße 37b in Riedenburg holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, recognition for good quality, good value cooking. The kitchen works in a Mediterranean and international style, and the house is a family-run restaurant with a small hotel attached.
The menu follows the seasons and leans on nearby producers. Lamb, goat, poultry, rabbit and Wollschwein (woolly pig) come from the Archehof "Gut Laubenhard" in Hemau, a farm that keeps rare heritage breeds. This farm-to-table approach shapes an international menu with a Mediterranean streak. Evenings centre on a four-course meal, and Sundays bring an additional menu.
The Terrasse am Bach sits directly beneath Rosenburg castle, and the restaurant describes it as quiet and sunny. Lighter and heartier dishes are served outside, so the outdoor seating suits a long lunch as well as dinner. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the restaurant 2 Kochlöffel in 2026 and places it in the Altmühl Valley, at the foot of a castle ruin near the Riedenburg lake stage.
Eleven single and double rooms let guests stay overnight after dinner. The restaurant has also run cooking classes, including a four-course menu course for 120 euros per person, with advance booking and limited places.
