The story
Beesten is a family restaurant at Eichenstraße 3 in Rheine, offering a French kitchen that blends German and French cooking. It holds a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, and the Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2,5 Kochlöffel the same year.
The restaurant has been a family house since 1906 and is now run by its fourth generation. Christoph Beesten trained as a butcher and cook and worked in kitchens in Düsseldorf, Davos, Arosa and Wiesbaden before returning home. Elisabeth Beesten trained as a hotel specialist and worked at three of the same houses as her husband. The family has done its own cooking in Rheine since 1995.
The kitchen changes its five-course menu every week, and single dishes from the à la carte card can be added to it. Recent courses have included beef carpaccio with balsamic and olive oil, a parsnip cream soup with pumpkin seed oil and a roasted tiger prawn, and duck breast served pink with cassis sauce. Dessert might be almond cream with chocolate mousse and mandarin sorbet. Menus run from 53 euros, with wine pairings from 77 euros.
The dining room is described as stylish but not stiff, with tradition that still feels lively. In good weather, guests eat outside in the beer garden under old chestnut trees. Outdoor seating and parking are both available.
