The story
Huberwirt, at Hofmark 3 in Pleiskirchen, earned a Michelin star in 2026 for its modern Bavarian cooking. The family has run the house since 1612, and today Alexander Huber leads the kitchen in the eleventh generation.
Huber works on two tracks under one roof. The Restaurant Alexander Huber serves a Bavarian avant-garde menu of five or seven courses, with a vegetarian version on advance order. The Wirtshaus Huberwirt next door keeps to traditional country cooking. Huber trained as a cook (the first in the family in 400 years) and worked in Baiersbronn, Golling, Wartenberg and at Munich's Tantris before returning to the stove in 2005.
The tasting menu leans on local ingredients with a few foreign accents. Chiemsee char comes with cucumber, red onion and black bread, while huchen is paired with caviar, crème fraîche and umeboshi. Local venison arrives with poverade, blueberries and a pine-scented spice jus. Der Feinschmecker gave the house 3 in 2026.
Sandra Huber, the house's sommelière, compiled a list of more than 450 wines from Germany, Austria and Italy. The dining room keeps its historic timber ceilings and adds modern upholstered chairs, and the light is bright. The Schlemmer Atlas rates the gourmet restaurant 3.5 Kochlöffel for 2026.
