The story
Venus im Schloss Nordkirchen is an international restaurant at Schloss 1 in Nordkirchen, Germany, set within the castle grounds. The Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended in 2026.
Chef Franz L. Lauter builds his cooking on French classics and adds Mediterranean and Asian touches, along with produce from Westphalia and Silesia. The menu pairs prawns with kale, pink-roasted duck breast with pointed cabbage, and turbot with pak choi and lime risotto. A nine-course seasonal menu can also be ordered course by course, and a small surprise menu changes daily.
The dining rooms sit in a princely baroque setting, and the paintings on the walls are Lauter's own work, since he trained as a painter. The Jupiter Saal and the Oranienburg are especially popular for celebrations, with space for up to 120 guests. The wine list holds around 200 bottles from around the world.
