The story

THE CLOUD by Käfer in Munich: Contemporary Fine Dining in the BMW Welt

THE CLOUD by Käfer in Munich serves contemporary fine dining at Am Olympiapark 1, inside the BMW Welt. The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, and Der Feinschmecker included it in its 2026 listings.

Jens Madsen's kitchen

Chef Jens Madsen builds each menu around a region. The current season, Nomadic Earth, travels through East and South Africa, combining regional Bavarian ingredients with African spices, fermentation and fire. The menu runs eight courses, with side dishes available. Madsen changes components about four times a year, depending on season and the arrival of fresh produce.

Dishes from the first season

Bavarian farmed shrimp meets African biltong in an XO-style sauce built on smoked eel and shrimp heads. Salmon trout sits in a silky coconut sauce, served with beans in several textures, tomato and mint. Quail from Lower Bavaria comes with hemp seeds and black truffle, under a light hollandaise finished with a rooibos reduction. A vegetarian menu runs alongside the main one.

The room and the glass

The room is spacious and bright, with a gray titanstone monolith at its center and a cloud-shaped form suspended above it. The restaurant seats 42. Luigi Pecchia selects the wine list, which holds around 300 references, plus a second selection of discoveries that ranges from South African sparkling wines to an Armenian red. Guests can choose a combined wine and drinks pairing, a classic wine pairing, or an alcohol-free option.

Concept Contemporary fine dining at BMW Welt, where Bavarian products are combined with global influences under the motto Culinary Nomadism. Two menus, one of which is vegetarian. Culinary Style In the first season, Jens Madsen focuses on African aromas: Bavarian farmed shrimp meets African biltong in an XO-style sauce made from smoked eel and shrimp heads, accompanied by pumpkin presented in surprising variations. Salmon trout bathes in a silky coconut sauce inspired by the East African coast, served with beans in various textures, tomatoes, mint, and numerous other spices. Quail from Lower Bavaria is paired with hemp seeds and black truffle, complemented by a light hollandaise sauce refined with a rooibos reduction. Wine Alongside a classic wine list featuring 300 references, Luigi Pecchia has curated a second selection dedicated to discoveries, ranging from South African sparkling wines to an Armenian red cuvée. Atmosphere Spacious, bright, and urban, this is how the large room appears in its completely new look. The focal point is a gray monolith made of titanstone, with the hovering, name-giving cloud suspended above it. Conclusion An open-minded concept designed for surprising moments of indulgence in a contemporary and stylish setting.
