The story
Gasthaus Waltz, at Ickstattstr. 13 in Munich, serves Alpine and Bavarian food and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, given for good quality cooking at good value. The Gasthaus sits in the Glockenbachviertel and welcomes both a quick lunch and a long dinner.
Markus Hirschler and Stefan Grabler run the house, and the kitchen works from a short list of named suppliers. Beef, veal and pork come from Schwäbisch-Hällisch in Wolpertshausen, the bread from Julius Brantner in Munich, and the pumpkin seed oil from the Grabler family in Lichendorf. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the restaurant 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026, citing seasonal, locally rooted cooking.
A three-course Gasthaus lunch costs 45 euros, with bread and butter included. The Wiener Schnitzel, at 28 euros, arrives with a potato and lamb's lettuce salad, lingonberries and lemon. Other mains include trout with kohlrabi and verjus, and Kasspressknödel with white cabbage and chives. Dessert options are a nougat parfait with hazelnut and honey, and "Omas Klassiker," vanilla ice cream with the Grabler pumpkin seed oil.
The tables and chairs are unadorned wood, and the team says it wants guests to linger without rush. The wine list runs to about 1200 positions, many of them mature, drawn from France, Germany and Austria. Spritzers are served in the classic glass, and beer comes from Spaten. Outdoor seating is available, and the new wine bar Garbo is around the corner.
