The story
Landgasthof Löwen in Memmingen, at Kirchdorfer Straße 8, is a family-run Classic Cuisine restaurant in Oberopfingen that earned a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The house has been run by the Ruhland family for more than 100 years, with a restaurant, a hotel and event rooms under one roof.
Alexander Ruhland leads the kitchen and cooks classic German dishes with modern and international influences. He trained under Christian Henze at Landhaus Henze in Probstried, then worked at Tantris in Munich and Vincent Klink in Stuttgart. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the restaurant 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026 and highlighted its five-course truffle and lobster menus. The house also runs a cooking school.
Menus change with the season, but recent cards have included a Roastbeef Rossini "nach Alexander," a yellowfin tuna sashimi with guacamole and yuzu, and a warm chocolate cake with khaki and coconut. Regional dishes such as a lemongrass and coconut curry soup with prawns and Allgäu beef sirloin with onion appear in the kitchen's repertoire. The February 2026 cooking class focused on a whole roe deer.
The Löwen-Stüberl seats 15 to 20 guests and suits family celebrations or small dinners. The main restaurant holds up to 25. For larger events, the event space takes groups of 30 or more, with flexible layouts for up to 130 guests across 200 square metres. Simone Ruhland hosts guests in the dining room and advises on wine.
