The story
Landgasthof Hammesmühle in Mayen runs a French-rooted country kitchen at Hammesmühle 1, 56727 Mayen. The restored historic watermill holds 2 Kochlöffel in the Schlemmer Atlas 2026, and it has shone in its renovated form since October 2024.
The house describes its cooking as a country kitchen with German and French roots, prepared without embellishment and with careful seasoning. Ingredients come preferably from local suppliers, and the menu follows the seasons. The current focus is fresh white asparagus, served in several variations.
The building was once the Löbs-Mühle, later named after Matthias Hammes, who owned it from 1903 to 1906. It sits on the Nette, about 500 metres from Schloss Bürresheim, in the Eifel countryside near Mayen. The dining concept was designed by the team behind Ai Pero in Andernach.
