The story
Domschenke serves country cooking at Lippstädter Straße 1 in Rietberg (Mastholte), about ten kilometers from Lippstadt. The Schlemmer Atlas gave it two Kochlöffel in 2026, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for the same year.
The Merkle family has run the house for three generations. Jochen Merkle is the chef, and he cooks with regional, seasonal ingredients in a handcrafted way. The Schlemmer Atlas singles out the maultaschen and the rump steak. For private groups of 8 to 25 guests, he plans individual menus by arrangement, from oysters and lobster to turbot, scallops, saddle of lamb and beef fillet.
The wood-paneled Gaststube is the rustic heart of the place, with draught beer at the counter and five sturdy tables. The Wintergarten seats up to 35. A Festsaal holds up to 85 for weddings and birthdays.
From 1 May until late summer, the beer garden opens at 17:30 under oaks more than 100 years old. The house recommends booking a table there too.
The drinks list runs from Hohenfelder draught beer to bottles from VDP estates, so a glass of wine sits as easily beside the French-leaning dishes as a cold Radler does beside the regional ones.
