The story
vierzehn85 is a contemporary restaurant at Euchariusstraße 10 in Leiwen, set in a half-timbered house on the banks of the Moselle. The Schlemmer Atlas gave it 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026 for modern regional cooking in two to six courses, paired with the house's own wines.
Monks raised the estate as a tithe farm, a place where local growers handed over a tenth of their harvest. Tree-ring dating confirms the year. A stable, a barn and a winepress house once stood beside the half-timbered house. Astrid and Norbert Schmitz spent years restoring the property, and the baroque front door, about three centuries old, is one of the few later additions.
The kitchen follows the calendar, so there is no asparagus in winter and no goose in summer. Starters have included smoked eel with swede and lamb's lettuce, and char with yellow beetroot, almond and sea buckthorn. Among the mains are skrei fillet with yeast, savoy cabbage and spinach, and beef saddle with oxtail, pumpkin and parsley root. Apple with ginger, green tea and yogurt closes the menu. The Michelin Guide listed the restaurant as Recommended in 2026.
The wine list changes with each vintage, and the most popular bottles disappear fast. Riesling takes pride of place. Guests who would rather not leave can book one of the guest rooms or the 100-square-metre suite, which sleeps two to six.
