The story
Restaurant Sonnenhof at Hauptstr. 51 in Lautenbach serves Baden cuisine with a modern edge, and the Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026.
The house runs two dining rooms, Sonne and Sonnenstüble, and both kitchens work from the same principles: seasonal produce and partners from the region. The team calls it good Baden cooking with a dash of the unexpected. The Schlemmer Atlas notes foie gras, a vegetarian terrine and an authentic duck pie among the dishes, with vegan options alongside.
Trout comes from the Forellenhof Strübing in Oberharmersbach, served whole with roasted almonds and butter, or smoked as a fillet with Urloffener horseradish. Beef Tafelspitz is cooked in broth and sent out with more of that horseradish. The Schwarzwaldburger adds Munster cheese and Black Forest ham. Vegan guests can choose the Sonnenhofburger with a pea patty and avocado crème, or aubergine roasted with oriental spices, yoghurt sauce and pomegranate.
A set lunch menu changes through the weekday. One sample day pairs gazpacho with either a summer salad with falafel or a poultry sausage, then espresso. Desserts include an Apfelstrudel 2.0 with rum-raisin ice cream and a Schwarzwald Hochzeit of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, cherry sorbet and cherry liqueur.
