The story
Ressmann's Residence at Kaiserstraße 87 in Kirkel cooks Mediterranean food with a modern hand, and the Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2 Kochlöffel in 2026. The restaurant is part of a hotel with 21 rooms, between St. Ingbert and Homburg.
Günther Ressmann, born in Leermoos in Tirol, bought the former restaurant Alt-Kirkel in 1985. The hotel was built in 1995 and the terrace followed in 1996. His wife Katharina now runs hotel and restaurant. Chef Markus Schmittke has led the kitchen since 2020, after stations at the Brandenburger Hof in Berlin and the Palace Hotel München. His cooking carries an Italian-Austrian accent.
The menu draws on French and Italian influences with Austrian roots, and the Michelin Guide lists the house as recommended for 2026. Recent dishes include linguine alla Norma, Münchner Kalbschnitzel and veal cheeks braised for 12 hours. Black Angus entrecôte comes with truffle fries. The weekly three-course lunch, with a glass of wine, costs 48 euros. In the evening, the Schlemmer Atlas points to grilled Charolais beef and a cheese selection from the cart.
In summer the garden bistro seats up to 65 guests, and its centrepiece is a Mediterranean stone oven with a charcoal grill. The Vinothek hosts parties of up to 16. On request it serves a menu paired with wines or a tailored tasting.
