The story
Kerstins Restaurant, at Roßbachstr. 34 in Dortmund, cooks Scandinavian and Westphalian food inside a medieval grain mill. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2 Kochlöffel in 2026.
The Schlemmer Atlas describes a fusion cuisine that pairs salmon and elk with schnitzel and blood sausage, in menus of up to seven courses. The restaurant calls itself "Nordisch-Westfälisch in der Alten Mühle," and the two traditions share one menu rather than taking turns. Vegetarian alternatives are available on request for its set menus.
With Chef's Choice, guests pick three to six courses from the current seasonal menu, or book just the main course for 40 €. The three-course menu costs 45 € per guest, with a wine pairing for 25 € more or a non-alcoholic one for 15 €. It needs 48 hours' notice, and on the second weekend of each month it becomes a dedicated gourmet weekend.
The kitchen also builds menus around occasions, such as a Danish Christmas, a midsommar dinner and a seven-course New Year's Eve menu. For a theatre evening in autumn, the kitchen served beetroot "blood soup" and fried blood sausage on mashed potato it called zombie slime.
