The story
Gasthof Adler, at Schloßstr. 1 in Isny, is a family-run Swabian inn that the Schlemmer Atlas rated 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026. The house is in the hands of its fifth generation, and the kitchen cooks in the regional tradition, with Badische and French touches alongside.
The Kiesel family describes the cooking as fine Swabian cuisine, served warm throughout the day, even outside the usual opening hours. You can settle in for a multi-course menu or keep it simple with a Swabian Vesper and farmhouse bread baked in the house. Organic and vegetarian options appear among the listed tags.
The dishes people come back for are traditional. Tripe, roast beef and ox meat are long-standing favourites, as are sausage salad and an onion roast beef the guides single out as well prepared. Maultaschen are also sold for takeaway. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the inn 2 Kochlöffel for this village-inn cooking.
Inside, the dining rooms are cozy in the village style. Outside, a garden courtyard looks onto the surrounding meadows. A delicatessen counter and house-distilled spirits round out the offer. Five guest rooms make it possible to stay the night.
