The story
Schloss Niederweis in Irrel, Germany, at Hauptstraße 9 in Niederweis, serves a classic French kitchen inside a restored baroque castle, and Michelin lists it as Recommended for 2026.
The menu follows classic French cooking, with a set menu and à la carte both available. The Schlemmer Atlas, which awarded the house 3 Kochlöffel in 2026, describes guests being served foie gras terrine, Wagyu steak and a cheese selection. Vegetarian guests are catered for, and the wine list is noted as interesting.
The building was constructed for Franz Eduard Anton Baron von der Heyden, and a keystone above the entrance is dated 1751. Partial restoration took place in 1984, and the Schneider family bought the property in 2005 and began bringing it back to life. Some original features remain in the main wing, including a large chimney piece and a stucco ceiling. The Tenne, about 330 square metres with crystal chandeliers and exposed timber beams, seats around 150 for banquets. The baroque-styled registry room hosts civil weddings for smaller groups, and the garden offers a setting for photographs.
