The story
Zehntkeller, at Bahnhofstraße 12 in Iphofen, pairs a Franconian kitchen with wines from its own organic estate, and Michelin listed it as Recommended in 2026. The restaurant is part of a Romantik hotel on the edge of the Steigerwald, where regional specialties sit alongside more refined cooking.
The kitchen offers the specialties of Franconia for guests who want traditional fare, and more elaborate dishes of fine cooking for those who prefer them. Ingredients are fresh and regionally sourced, and each dish is prepared with care. The menu also includes a separate Vesper card for the afternoon.
The house wines come from the historic Bioland estate at the foot of the Schwanberg, and they are poured with the meal. Cellar master Johannes Weickert leads visitors through the organic viticulture and the vineyard sites. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the restaurant 2 Kochlöffel in 2026 and describes it as a nostalgic room in the former administrative building of the Würzburg prince-bishops.
The property is spread across several historic buildings, including a main house, a garden house, a courtyard house and a former wine press house. Guests can stay overnight after a day of exploring the Franconian wine country. A large herb garden surrounds the grounds, offering a quiet place to sit before or after dinner.
