The story
Gasthaus Adler in Ichenhausen is a family-run village inn with a Swabian kitchen, rated 13 points by Gault&Millau in 2026. The house dates to 1701 and has stayed in the same family for generations.
The kitchen works mostly in the Swabian tradition, and the team says everything is prepared fresh. Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026 and noted that the cooking goes elegantly beyond Swabian convention. Badische and French influences sit alongside the regional core.
The daily menu leans on honest inn staples: Schweinebraten with Knödel, Spinatspätzle in a cheese cream sauce with ham strips, and a Cordon Bleu Rustika filled with bacon, fried onions and mountain cheese. Gault&Millau singled out the broccoli soup, the beef tartare and the veal liver with crisp Rösti. The Zug cherry cake got its praise for a flawless finish.
The heritage-listed house keeps a wood-paneled dining room with a cozy, nostalgic feel. When the weather allows, meals move to the sunny terrace. A separate hall seats up to 60 guests, which suits weddings and family celebrations.
