The story
Westphalenhof is a classic cuisine restaurant at Dorfaue 43 in the Sorbian village of Zeißig, part of Hoyerswerda, Germany. The Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026 and a 2.5 Kochlöffel rating from the Schlemmer Atlas for the same year place it among the region's notable tables.
Alexander Westphal leads the kitchen, which turns out small appetisers, fish and meat dishes, and vegetarian plates in a refined style. The team prepares each dish gently and sources regional ingredients from sustainable suppliers.
The menus change with the seasons and mix classic dishes with newer combinations. Courses are suggestions only, and guests can build a meal as extensive as they like. The Schlemmer Atlas describes a gourmet menu of four to seven courses, each with a matching wine.
Sommelier Oliver Westphal curates the wine list and the well-stocked Weindepot, where guests can taste new bottles before choosing. Monthly tastings cover grape varieties and growing regions, and a small-group "Käse & Wein" format pairs cheese with wine.
The bar also pours beer and spirits for guests who come in for a drink only. Private tasting evenings are possible, and the team will source specific wines on request.
The restaurant sits away from the city noise, and its warm, unhurried atmosphere suits both quiet dinners and larger gatherings. In summer, the terrace extends the room outdoors.
Seating accommodates up to 50 guests inside and another 50 on the terrace. The calendar includes beer dinners, grill menus, champagne evenings and a First Class Dinner, and the house also hosts weddings and company celebrations.
