The story
Diergardts Kühler Grund in Hattingen, Germany, is a family-run restaurant serving classic cuisine at Am Büchsenschütz 15. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it three Kochlöffel in 2026, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for the same year.
The house traces its roots to a great-grandfather named Julius, who took over a mix of schnapps bar, dairy and general store in the valley by the Sprockhöveler Bach. Miners stopped in after their shifts for dairy products and a dram. Today the family wants guests to feel at home, and the kitchen sources most of its ingredients from local producers.
The Schlemmer Atlas singles out pink veal Tafelspitz and Eifel smoked salmon, and a four-course menu is available alongside candlelight dinners and weekend lunches. The seasonal menu leans on regional produce. Wine is a second passion here, with natural wines made with minimal intervention, and the owner trained as a winemaker at Weingut Meyer-Näkel.
