The story
La Maison d'Avignon, at Arnoldstraße 2 in Hamburg, is the avant-garde French restaurant of chef Mathias Mercier, with Provençal roots and a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. It sits in the Ottensen district and works with a single menu.
Mercier was born in Avignon and cooked at Petit Amour and bianc before opening his own place. The menu changes monthly and runs from three to nine courses. A homemade fougasse with anchoiade appears among the amuse-bouche every time. In 2026 the Schlemmer Atlas awarded 2.5 Kochlöffel and singled out the bouillabaisse, duck liver and monkfish.
March brought duck liver parfait with orange and avocado, then skrei with morels, Albufera sauce and walnuts. A Duroc pork chop came with pomme fondante and truffles, and pear with honey and lavender closed the meal. The autumn menu had a blood sausage tart with pumpkin. The Bouillabaisse Riche is served Tuesday to Thursday on pre-order, at 65 euros per person.
Le Livre des Vins is entirely French and arranged by region, from Alsace and the Loire to Burgundy and the Rhône. Pairings start at three wines for 55 euros, and a nine-wine pairing accompanies the long menu. The furnishings are minimalist, softened by accessories that celebrate France. A private room is available for groups.
