The story
Speiseberg, at Kröllwitzer Straße 45 in Halle (Saale), cooks one eight-course menu of modern cuisine and holds a Michelin star in the 2026 guide.
Chef Christoph Baumgartner comes from Amstetten in Austria, and nostalgic nods to home meet international influences on the plate. Der Feinschmecker (2.5 in 2026) says he stresses craftsmanship and premium ingredients, with a playful streak in presentation.
Delicate char fillet gets depth and aroma from peppers. Baked pumpkin takes center stage with lime and elderberries. Black garlic deepens juicy, medium-rare lamb. A vegetarian or pescetarian menu is available by arrangement, ideally announced a day ahead.
There is no à la carte. Every guest receives each course at the same time, and the evening can run up to four hours. The menu is 165 euros, with a wine pairing at 60 euros or a non-alcoholic one at 55. The wine list is international, led by Austria and the Saale-Unstrut region. The dining room is intimate, with modern furnishings, natural wooden tables and a young service team. It sits high above the city and shares the Bergschenke grounds with a day bistro and a beer garden.
